  • Added RINGS to the HUD

  • Added LIVES to the HUD

  • Added FPS to the HUD (can be turned on and off, off in pictures)

  • Changed HUD to classic style

  • Added Homing Attack forward

  • Added Homing Attack downward

  • Added Midi Music

  • Changed All Sprites to Genesis Sprites

  • Changed Max. Vertical Speed

  • Changed MOST Sounds

  • Added Level End Signpost

Update

Sonic Last Gen was changed to work with midis instead of mp3s (less space required with midis), but the GMK (game maker project) file was lost to corruption, so the game continues to use MP3s for music. Here's the things updated in beta 8 (unreleased)

  • Redesigned bossfights: Robotnik no longer gives a warning before shooting, and doesnt stop when hit, but you can get hit by the missile as long as you are jumping and not die.
  • Less glitchy Knuckles: In the last version of Sonic Last Gen, Knuckles' punch move was kinda glitchy and strange (what happened was a "fist" appeared out of him while he just stood there). Now, his pose changes while punching, he moves forward while punching (like sonic advance), and his punch makes a sound.
  • New Graphics for Knuckles: Since I didn't really like the Knuckles sprites from Knuckles' Chaotix (32X), I replaced them with the sprites from Sonic 3/Sonic and Knuckles. These graphics fit better, and more actions are available that are not available with Knuckles' Chaotix Knuckles sprites (i.e. punching and dying).
  • Spindash and Roll Attack Added: One of the worst things about Sonic Last Gen was the not being able to roll or spindash. Well, now that problem is solved. Spindashing and rolling work just like the original games: press down while in motion to roll, and press down and X to charge up your spindash.
  • New Sound Effects: The sound effects for Sonic's homing attack, jumping and Amy's double jump, and a few others have been changed.
  • New/Changed Music: Some music tracks have been changed, like Bridge Zone, which is now the original 8-bit version of the Bridge Zone music, options screen (which is now Sonic 3 time attack screen music), and special stage music (sonic 3 "get blue spheres" music). A new track has been added: the music from the extras screen of Sonic Mega Collection (GC/PS2).
  • Secret Level Select (you didn't read this): There is now a secret level select that lets you select every single level in the game so far, even the secret levels not accessible in normal gameplay. To get to the level you need to play 4 sounds on the options screen (hint: it has something to do with sonic 1 on the genesis/megadrive, but thats all im saying).
  • New Zone - Spring Alley: A new zone, based on the original Spring Yard Zone from Sonic 1 was added to the game. This level features a lot of springs and other things.

Custom Character Sprites

A few of the sprites in Sonic Last Gen were custom made by me. These are those sprites:
Sonic

This is the "idle" sonic sprite (where hes tapping his foot) but now he's smiling, his eyes are open wider, and he is also doing a victory sign.
Knuckles

Only the sprite on the right is custom made. The one on the left is the original picture. These frames are played as an animation of knuckles tapping his foot in impatience.

Tails

(NONE)

Amy

As you can see, the majority of Amy's sprites were custom made by me. This is because the original sprites came from Sonic Cd, where Amy is not a playable character.

The Characters

Sonic The Hedgehog

Sonic's his name and speed's his game! Sonic is the fastest runner in the game, reaching amazing speeds in short times. This can make him hard to control, especially for beginners, but for experienced players, Sonic is a great character. His special moves are forward homing attack and downward homing attack (neither of which actually home in on anything, but they can be used to hit a certain target better). The forward homing attack is done by pressing X after jumping, and the downward homing attack is done by pressing DOWN after jumping.
Knuckles the Echidna (NOT IN NEW SLG)

Running is not exactly Knuckles' forte, but he definitely makes up for this with his strength. This makes him good for beginners because he is very easy to control. He can break through certain walls by simply walking into them. He can also punch by pressing the SPACE button. This can only be used when Knuckles is completely stopped. This can break certain walls, destroy enemies, and do other helpful things.
Miles "Tails" Prower (NOT IN NEW SLG)
Who can forget Sonic's little fox sidekick and best friend, Tails. From his first game, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, to today, he has become a well-known character in the sonic series. He is so fast that he can ALMOST keep up with sonic (kinda like in Sonic 2 lol). This makes him almost as hard to control as Sonic. Also, Tails has forgotten how to fly (lol), so he must use his only special attack, the ring toss, to help him on his adventure. This can be done by pressing SPACE at any moment.
Amy Rose (NOT IN NEW SLG)
I know what you're thinking: that doesn't look like amy at all. Well, it IS amy. That's what Amy looked like BEFORE Sonic Adventure. This is Sonic LAST Gen, not NEXT Gen. Anyway, Amy has taken a little break from bothering Sonic to help him and the rest of the team defeat Dr. Ivo Robotnik once again. Amy is very slow. She's the slowest runner in the game, which makes her great for beginners. She also has a double jump (press X after jumping) which makes reaching high places easier. This can also uncover certain secrets that are "out of reach" to the other characters.
